There weren’t many special shape balloons, I’m guessing that the winds weren’t right for them. We had a fun time watching the balloons up close. I think Steve was a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of balloons! We ordered breakfast burritos from the stand by the registration booth, then walked over to watch a balloon launch. The spectators all applauded when the balloon took off.
By then, our burritos were done, so we walked back to Blue to eat, pack up and say “Good-bye” to all our Lazy Daze buddies!
This event wouldn't happen without all the great support... the "honey wagons" that patrol the RV grounds, the chase crews, the "water wagons", the mounted police. Everyone is very pleasant and helpful!

We stopped by the Thunderbird Harley Davidson shop to look at all the goodies, then headed south to visit the John Lewis Mechanical Antique Repair typewriter shop/museum (www.antiquephonograph.com). There were so many neat old typewriters, music boxes, players and other interesting things that I couldn’t photograph them fast enough. Steve was really enjoying the owners attention, but felt guilty about taking him away from his regular work of repairing typewriters and other office machines.

We also found out from the shop owner that there was a terrible accident at the Balloon Fiesta, not long after we left. A balloon hit power lines and caught fire. One man was killed, another seriously injured. The balloons are so beautiful, but can also be so dangerous.
This picture was taken before dawn on 10/8/08, of the balloon that crashed. This is the only photo I have of this balloon. RIP.
From there, we drove south on I-25 to Belen, where we stopped and had lunch at A&W. I ended up pulling over shortly after lunch for a well-deserved nap. After nap-time, we drove to Socorro, where we investigated the “Plaza”, which really has the old time feel of a Mexican Zocallo.

We then headed west on Hwy 60 to Magdalena, where we looked around a bit and are now staying at the “Eagles Nest RV Park and Motel”. It is EXTREMELY windy.
